Cruise Director David has been named ‘Keeper of all memories for this Ocean Tribe’ He joined us in 1985 on our original boat SuperStar. David grew up in Indiana graduating from Princeton with a degree in psychology. After teaching sailing at Club Med in Kauai, Europe and the Caribbean, David arrived on Maui and taught sailing at the Ka’anapali Alii. David is a constant student of Hawaii’s Marine Environment, History and Culture and is a published author in Mark Ellman’s new book ‘Practice Aloha’.

At a very young age, Captain Jake knew that he wanted to spend his life working around the ocean. Jake grew up on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and as kids, he and his twin brother learnt to sail on their 16’ Prindle. Over the years, Jake sailed in the Caribbean and the North and South Pacific Ocean. Jake began his career as a Lifeguard, and then Beach Patrol, saving 37 lives and rescuing many more. After driving boats in South Carolina, he moved to Maui 1998 becoming Captain of Gemini in 2007.

Captain Marty grew up in Northern California and began his career with the US Navy. From 1973-1977 Marty was stationed in Pearl Harbor, and became friends with Gemini’s founder Gary Shipp, In 1983, Marty moved to Maui and drove charter boats in Lahaina and Ka’anapali before becoming Captain of SuperStar and later Gemini. In 1992, Marty began his own business, Absolute Fishing. Marty returned to Captain Gemini in 2008 and still offers fishing charters several days a week with the Absolute.

Captain Robert grew in Agoura Hills, California and after attending the University of Oregon he moved to Maui and began working onboard Gemini in 2000. After earning his Captain’s License, Robert worked on various charter boats in Maui, then in 2007 joined Expedition Travel as a Naturalist, Guide & Zodiac driver working and traveling around the world. Robert became a pilot, EMT & Commercial Diver Certified before returning to captain Gemini in 2011.

Linda grew up water-skiing on the lakes in Michigan, and studied photography & computer programming in college. Changing her focus, she worked in the music industry in international artist management. In 1993 after reading James Michener’s ‘Hawaii’, Linda knew she wanted to move to the islands. She took a job in guest relations in a Ka’anapali Resorts, and in 2001, after many trips out on her favorite boat, joined Gemini’s crew. Linda also teaches aerobics, practices yoga, and still enjoys water-skiing weekly. |

Andrew grew up in Burlington, in Ontario, Canada where he graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in Marine Biology. He volunteered doing research on Whale Sharks in Belize and then restoring habitat for the Yellow -eyed Penguins in New Zealand. Later, Andrew moved to Alaska and worked for the National Marine Fisheries as a boat observer. After moving to Maui and working as naturalist for several other charter companies, Andrew joined Gemini as crew in December 2006. |

Chimo spent his first four years living offshore on our first boat SuperStar. We delivered Island Star from Long Beach to the Big Island, so Chimo did his first ocean crossing at age three and by six he was rescuing boats during hurricane Iniki with his father, Gary Shipp. Chimo had always been an avid fisherman and in his teen years Capt. Marty with ‘Absolute’ showed him the ropes. Captain Chimo, a young competent fisherman ran charter and commercial fishing boats in Alaska & Maui before returning to Gemini.

Olie grew up in Maui and has spent his entire life on or around boats and the ocean; in fact he took his first steps aboard our 76’ schooner, Crystal Anna. Already a Captain, Olie is an avid diver and spear fisherman, skim boarder and surfer, snowboarder and locally sponsored skate-boarder, and student of Jiu-Jitzu. He began officially crewing onboard Gemini the summer of 2005. Olie drives zodiac for UFO Parasail in the summer and during the winter high surf days he becomes Gemini’s Zodiac Captain. |

Jennifer grew up in the Bay Area and after graduating high school she packed her bags and set off for a couple of years to explore the world. She traveled throughout Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa arriving in Maui 1990. She loved Maui, and decided to stay and began working on Gemini as a videographer, and spent eight winters studying and filming Humpbacks with researchers. Jennifer has been doing videos on Gemini since 1991, and she loves sharing her knowledge of the ocean with our guests.

Captain Steve’O grew up in Eugene, Oregon where his love for windsurfing began. After High School Steve’O moved to Maui and taught windsurfing at the newly opened Westin Maui. In 1989 he joined SuperStar and Crystal Anna, and later Gemini’s crew where he was nicknamed ‘the kid magnet’. In 2001, after the birth of his daughter Steve’O became a Maui Fire fighter, but he’s back again fitting his Gemini days around his fire fighters schedule. Steve’O is also a locally sponsored windsurfer and a Jack of all trades! |

Serena was born on Maui and her family purchased their third boat, the Gemini when she was an infant. So, like her brothers, she grew up sailing with Gemini’s crew. Serena began helping out onboard at five years old as ‘Gemini’s cookie-girl’ working her way up to becoming a member of the crew during the summer of 2008. Serena is currently attending University. She is a passionate student of life, a writer and photographer, an artist and jewelry maker and loves the ocean and nearly all its inhabitants!

Rosemary grew up in New York and Minnesota, and after traveling for several years, Rosemary sailed to the Big Island and we met at the Dry Dock in Kona. Rosemary joined Gemini’s Crew in 1992 and was soon known as ‘the Gem of Gemini’. In 2006, having overstressed her shoulder, Rosemary retired as Crew. Luckily in 2007 an office position opened up and the ‘Gem of Gemini’ began working ‘behind the scenes’. Rosemary loves cooking and gardening as well as spending time on their land in Hana. |

Emily joined our energetic crew in 2011, originally a mountain bike coach from Washington State. She graduated from Colorado State with a Bachelor of Arts, however her passion for mountain biking took her to Santa Cruz, Whistler and New Zealand. Emily is renowned for being one of the only three women in the world to successfully land a back flip on a mountain bike! A powerhouse of energy, Emily has crewed on various other boats in Lahaina and is a great addition to the Gemini Ohana! |
